Normally #aquaculture programs are implemented under perennial tanks, but under the technical guidance of National Aquaculture Development Authority (#NAQDA), CRIWMP has initiated aquaculture program in rural tanks in the #cascade systems which are seasonal.
From this Aquaculture program it is expected that the #FarmerOrganizations (FO) were able to strengthen their operation and maintenance (O&M) funds to carry out the O&M work smoothly in the cascades. This is to maintain the sustainability of the village irrigation systems even after the project. FOs will be able to carry forward water management through proper operation & maintenance. Through that farmers will be able to cultivate more land to increase their income.
In addition to that, this will support the Protein nutrition
availability within the village and surrounding communities, and also create livelihood opportunity for the farmers. This is a timely intervention with the current food crisis in the country.
#Janathakshan as a mobilization partner will be facilitating stakeholder coordination and community-level #mobilization for this activity.
So far, 470,000 fingerlings were stocked in 21 tanks in selected area of Anuradhapura.
