Final Validation Workshop on Just Transition and Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Technical Paper – Sri Lanka

Janathakshan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA), and the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFT) Secretariat, successfully conducted a series of Focus Group Discussions followed by the Final Validation Workshop on the Technical Paper on Just Transition and the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty – Sri Lanka.

The events, held at the Grand Monarch Hotel, Thalawathugoda, brought together 22 national experts representing government entities, civil society organizations, academia, and private sector institutions. The purpose of these sessions was to review, refine, and validate the draft Technical Paper developed as part of Sri Lanka’s national engagement on Just Transition and Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation.

The discussions were led by Dr. Thusitha Sugathapala, Director General of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, with the participation of key technical experts who contributed valuable sectoral insights from the power, transport, and industry sectors. The participants engaged in in-depth and forward-looking deliberations on the opportunities, challenges, and tangible benefits of Sri Lanka’s transition towards a low-carbon, sustainable, and equitable energy future.

The Final Validation Workshop served as a critical step in finalizing the technical document that will represent Sri Lanka’s national position at COP 30. The validated paper highlights the strategic importance of aligning Sri Lanka’s national efforts with global initiatives such as the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and ensuring a Just Transition that safeguards livelihoods, promotes energy security, and supports sustainable economic growth.

Through these collaborative efforts, Janathakshan and its partners are contributing to shaping a national pathway toward a fossil-free, equitable, and resilient Sri Lanka, demonstrating the country’s commitment to global climate leadership and sustainability.
