On Tuesday, 16th September 2025, a mobile awareness program was conducted in Ja-Ela town to educate shops and the community on the importance of waste segregation and the value of providing recyclable materials to PHINLA Resource Bank.
The initiative was a collaborative effort between the Ja-Ela Urban Council, the Police, the PHINLA Resource Collector Association, and Janathakshan, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen community participation in sustainable waste management. Through the program, participants were sensitized on practical methods of separating waste and encouraged to contribute recyclable items, ensuring they are channeled into productive use rather than discarded.
This program was organized under the PHINLA II Project, funded by the German Corporation BMZ and World Vision Germany, and implemented by World Vision Lanka and Janathakshan. The project focuses on transforming waste into valuable resources while fostering sustainable community practices that contribute to a cleaner environment and improved livelihoods.
By promoting collective responsibility and practical action, the initiative marks another important step toward building a greener, more sustainable future for Ja-Ela.
